J&K Police intensify counterterrorism raids across valley following Red Fort blast

Srinagar, Nov 12 (KINS): In the aftermath of the car bomb explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort, police and security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir have launched intensified counterterrorism operations across the Valley.

The sweeping crackdown targets overground workers, sympathisers, and members of banned outfits such as Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), along with individuals suspected of having links to terrorist groups based in Pakistan.

According to officials, extensive raids have been carried out in multiple districts, including Kulgam, which was once a hub of militant activity. Police said searches were conducted at numerous locations over the past several days, leading to the seizure of incriminating materials and digital devices. Several individuals were questioned, and some were taken into preventive custody under relevant legal provisions.

In North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, as per news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) coordinated raids were conducted in Sopore, Zinger, and Rafiabad areas following intelligence inputs suggesting renewed attempts by JeI-linked elements to regroup under different fronts.

Authorities confirmed that documents, digital gadgets, and printed materials associated with banned organisations were recovered for further examination.

“These operations are intelligence-based and precautionary in nature, aimed at maintaining peace and preventing any group or individual from exploiting local communities,” Sopore Police said in a statement. “The J&K Police remain committed to neutralising all networks connected to proscribed organisations and terrorism.”

Similar large-scale searches were carried out in Shopian district, focusing on premises linked to individuals associated with JeI. Officials said the operations were conducted under counterterrorism measures following credible intelligence inputs.

Amid heightened security alerts across the Union Territory, investigators are also probing potential links between the Red Fort blast and elements in Kashmir. In a related development, a doctor from South Kashmir, currently posted at a Srinagar hospital, was detained for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.

Meanwhile, security forces have intensified checking on highways and in sensitive areas across Shopian, Pulwama, and Anantnag to ensure sustained vigilance and public safety.(KINS)
