JK Assembly Elections: Rahul Gandhi Hints at Possible Alliance, ‘Reaffirms Commitment to Statehood Restoration’

Srinagar, Aug 22 (KINS): In a significant development ahead of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has dropped hints about a possible alliance.
Addressing party workers here in the local hotel, Gandhi underscored his party’s dedication to restoring statehood and addressing the concerns of the people in the region.
“We decided to visit Jammu and Kashmir because we wanted to send a message, not just to the people here but to the entire country,” said Gandhi. “Representation and statehood for Jammu and Kashmir are of utmost importance. After Azadi, various states were converted into Union Territories, but only Jammu and Kashmir had its statehood removed. This is something we need to correct.”
Gandhi took a strong stand on restoring dignity and governance to the region. “I respect the people of Jammu and Kashmir. I will end your sufferings forever,” he declared, drawing applause from a crowd of supporters.
In a lighter moment, Rahul Gandhi shared details about his personal experiences during his visit. “Last night, I visited with Kargagi for dinner and we enjoyed the famous Wazwan. Unfortunately, he couldn’t fully savor the taste, but I had ice cream afterward. When those around me enjoying their dessert said, ‘You like the people of Jammu and Kashmir,’ I corrected them. I said, ‘No, I love the people of Jammu and Kashmir.’”
Gandhi praised the efforts of Congress workers in the region, acknowledging their work in turbulent times. “If someone has truly worked for Kashmir, it’s the Congress worker. I salute you for your service,” he said, recognizing the longstanding dedication of his party in the region.
He further mentioned that he had spoken with senior Congress leader Tariq Hameed Karra about the possibility of an alliance. “I have told Tariq Karra that an alliance will happen, but our workers and leaders will be treated with full respect,” Gandhi emphasized, signaling potential pre-election negotiations with other political factions.
Taking a swipe at the Modi government, Gandhi added, “We have broken down the self-confidence of Modi. The people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve better, and we will work tirelessly to bring peace and prosperity back to the region.”
This visit comes as the political climate in Jammu and Kashmir heats up in anticipation of the upcoming Assembly elections. (KINS)
