J&K Govt partners with OneSight EssilorLuxottica & HELP Foundation to launch comprehensive Eye Care Program for Artisans

Srinagar, Sep 02 (KINS): In a major initiative to improve the quality of life for artisans in the Kashmir Valley, the Government of Jammu & Kashmir has teamed up with the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation and HELP Foundation to launch a comprehensive eye care program. This initiative aims to provide essential vision care services to 15,000 artisans across the valley, many of whom are receiving eye screenings for the first time in their lives.
The program will offer free eye examinations conducted by qualified professionals, focusing on the eye health needs of artisans, fisherfolk, and students in the community. Those in need of corrective lenses will be provided with glasses, while the program will also work to raise awareness about the importance of eye health. Additionally, a framework will be established for continuous monitoring and support for individuals with chronic eye conditions, ensuring long-term care and sustainable health outcomes.
Anurag Hans, Head of Mission at EssilorLuxottica and President of the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation, emphasized the transformative impact of the program, stating, “By providing artisans in Jammu & Kashmir with good vision, we empower them to continue their craft with confidence, preserving the state’s cultural heritage and fostering economic independence.”
Mrs. Nighat Shafi, Chairperson of HELP Foundation, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, noting that the initiative addresses a critical gap in healthcare for artisans in the Kashmir Valley. She highlighted the program’s role in preserving livelihoods and promoting sustainable development within these communities.
The eye care program will be rolled out in phases, starting with community assessments and mobilization efforts in Srinagar, Bandipora, Baramulla, and Budgam. Trained healthcare professionals will conduct detailed eye screenings and provide immediate interventions. Educational workshops will also be organized to increase awareness of eye health and prevention, with follow-up care provided to those with chronic conditions, ensuring long-term support and health monitoring.
The OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation, a registered charitable organization, is dedicated to eliminating uncorrected poor vision in underserved communities worldwide. This partnership with the J&K government and HELP Foundation marks a significant step towards achieving that goal in the Kashmir Valley.(KINS)
