Jammu : The Congress on Saturday appointed M K Bhardwaj and Bhanu Mahajan as acting working presidents of its Jammu and Kashmir unit. This move comes amid the ongoing assembly polls in the region, reflecting the party’s focus on effective leadership during crucial elections.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge announced the appointments, emphasizing the need for strong leadership. M K Bhardwaj and Bhanu Mahajan will take up their new roles immediately, according to a party statement. This development follows the August appointment of Tariq Hameed Karra as the president of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee, replacing Vikar Rasool Wani.
In addition to these appointments, Kharge also appointed Tara Chand and Raman Bhalla as working presidents for Jammu and Kashmir. The assembly elections in the region are being conducted in three phases, with the next phase of polling for 26 seats set for September 25. The final phase will be held on October 1, and results are expected on October 8.
