Engineer Rashid: ‘Parties Should Not Form Government Till Restoration of Statehood’

Srinagar, Oct 7 ( KINS) – Awami Ittehad Party President and Member of Parliament, Sheikh Abdul Rashid, commonly known as Engineer Rashid, has voiced strong opposition to the formation of any government in Jammu and Kashmir until full statehood is restored. According to Rashid, any government formed in the near future would only govern a Union Territory and have limited powers.
In a sharp critique of the regional parties, particularly the alliance of political groups in Jammu and Kashmir, Rashid accused them of inactivity over the last five years. He called on political factions, including India Block, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), his own party, and other organizations, to unite and refrain from forming a government until statehood is reinstated.
Rashid emphasized that even if any one party or alliance secures a majority in the upcoming elections, it is the collective responsibility of all political groups to exert pressure on the central government for the restoration of statehood. The Awami Ittehad Party, he added, is willing to collaborate with other parties on this critical issue.
He warned that without the reinstatement of statehood, the people of Jammu and Kashmir would continue to be deprived of their rights. Rashid’s statement comes as preparations for the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir gather pace, with the issue of statehood restoration becoming a key topic of debate among political parties.
Rashid concluded by stressing that only an empowered government under full statehood can guarantee real development and safeguard the rights of the people. He urged all political entities to unite for the public good on this pressing issue.( KINS)
