Kashmir Police launch SIM Card verification drive to curb fraud & misuse
Srinagar, Feb 11 (KINS): The police in Kashmir have initiated a SIM card verification drive across multiple districts to ensure that mobile phone connections are issued in strict compliance with established procedures, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
In a proactive move to tackle the rising concerns over fraud and the misuse of SIM cards, authorities have launched this comprehensive verification initiative, targeting SIM card vendors in various regions. Police officers are conducting visits to these vendors in their areas of jurisdiction to validate the issuance process.
The drive is currently being implemented in districts such as Anantnag, Budgam, and Pulwama, with plans to extend it to other parts of the Kashmir Valley.
“This initiative is part of a broader strategy to prevent the use of SIM cards for anti-national and unlawful activities,” officials said. “Given the increase in cyber frauds and growing security concerns, this drive will focus on verifying the authenticity of documents provided by subscribers and ensuring that vendors strictly adhere to the Department of Telecommunications’ guidelines.”
The verification process seeks to ensure that SIM cards are issued only to legitimate individuals, with all necessary documentation in place.
“By conducting random checks and ensuring thorough compliance, we aim to deter fraudulent practices and bolster the security framework within the district,” the officials added.
The move follows several recent incidents where SIM cards were recovered from inmates during raids in jails across the union territory, further highlighting the need for stringent checks.(KINS)
