DM Jammu clarifies vehicle modification order: ‘Only dimensional changes barred, aesthetic upgrades allowed within legal safety norms’

KINS Desk

Jammu, Aug 22 (KINS): Dispelling apprehensions among vehicle owners and traders, District Magistrate Jammu Dr Rakesh Minhas on Friday clarified that the recently issued order on vehicle modifications does not impose blanket restrictions.

He said that instead, it specifically prohibits alterations to a vehicle’s original dimensions and chassis, along with banning tinted glasses, pressure horns, and other unsafe modifications.

Addressing concerns raised by the trader community and vehicle owners, the DM as per news agency KINS told reporters that cosmetic changes such as alloy wheels, paintwork, or aesthetic enhancements are permissible as long as they remain within the legal framework and do not compromise the vehicle’s safety standards.

Drawing a parallel with building bylaws, he explained, “Just as one cannot alter the basic structure of a house but can change its color or fittings, the same applies to vehicles. The administration has no objection to modifications that do not affect the fundamental design or safety of the vehicle.”

He further underlined that front and rear bull guards, along with tinted glasses, remain strictly banned in the interest of road safety.

The clarification, he added, was issued after consultations with traffic police to allay unnecessary fears among traders and citizens.(KINS)
