Centre Issues Advisory to TV Channels Over Sensitive Broadcasts Linked to Red Fort Blast Case

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) on Tuesday issued a strong advisory to all private satellite television channels, cautioning them against broadcasting sensitive or potentially harmful content related to recent incidents, including the Red Fort blast case.
In the advisory, the Ministry noted that certain news channels had aired content featuring alleged individuals involved in the Red Fort blasts, including material that appeared to justify acts of violence or demonstrate methods of making explosive devices. The Ministry warned that such broadcasts could unintentionally encourage violence, disturb public order, and pose serious risks to national security.
The advisory stressed that all broadcasters must strictly adhere to the Programme and Advertising Code under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995. It highlighted potential violations of Rules 6(1)(d), 6(1)(e), and 6(1)(h) of the Cable Television Network Rules, which prohibit content that is obscene, defamatory, false, incites violence, disrupts law and order, promotes anti-national attitudes, or affects the integrity of the nation.
The Ministry further urged channels to avoid telecasting visuals that may aid, abet, or promote any unlawful activity.
“This advisory has been issued with the approval of the competent authority,” the communication signed by Arpitha S., Deputy Secretary to the Government of India, stated.
Copies of the advisory have also been sent to self-regulatory bodies of TV channels, associations of electronic media, and the Broadcast Seva Portal, reinforcing the government’s push for responsible and sensitive news coverage during critical situations.
