Khayam youth defies odds to chase Judo dream amid hardships
KINS Desk
Srinagar, Apr 21 (KINS): Aamir Ashraf Bhat, a 30-year-old resident of Khayam in Srinagar, continues to pursue his passion for Judo despite facing financial constraints and personal tragedies.
Aamir has represented at both junior and senior national-level Judo competitions, participating in events held in Shillong and Chennai. However, his journey has been far from easy, as he struggles to afford proper diet and supplements essential for an athlete’s performance.
In 2013, Aamir suffered an arm injury that forced him to give up football. Undeterred, he shifted his full focus to Judo and has since remained committed to the sport. His resilience was further tested in 2023 when he lost his mother, a setback that deeply affected him but did not deter his determination.
An NCC cadet with an educational qualification up to matriculation, Aamir balances multiple responsibilities. He works as a salesman at a local shop to support himself while continuing his training.
Despite limited resources, he maintains a disciplined routine, training early in the morning after offering prayers. Alongside his sporting pursuits, Aamir has also been actively involved in social work, contributing during times of crisis such as floods and the COVID-19 pandemic.
