Traffic restrictions on NH-44 from July 1 ahead of Amarnath Yatra
Jammu, June 30 (KINS): The Traffic Police on Tuesday issued a fresh advisory regulating vehicular movement on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) ahead of the commencement of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026, with the first batch of pilgrims scheduled to leave Jammu on July 2.
According to the advisory, Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) will not be allowed to move from Qazigund towards Jammu and Jakheni (Udhampur) towards Srinagar after 7 pm on July 1. However, Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) will be permitted to ply till 11 pm.
On July 2, after the Yatra convoy passes, up-direction LMVs, private vehicles and passenger service vehicles will be allowed from Nagrota to Udhampur once the tail of the convoy crosses Jakheni. Similarly, down-direction LMVs and passenger vehicles will be allowed from Qazigund towards Jammu after the Baltal convoy crosses Marog. Commuters have been advised to follow daily traffic advisories for updated cut-off timings.
The advisory further stated that heavy vehicles will be allowed to ply on alternate days, subject to traffic conditions, and no HMV will be permitted from Qazigund or Jakheni after 7 pm during the Yatra period.
Transporters carrying perishable goods, fresh produce and livestock have been advised to plan their movement accordingly. The Traffic Police also said that local intra-district movement after the prescribed cut-off timings will be allowed only after verification of valid photo identity cards.
The authorities appealed to the public to plan their travel in advance and cooperate with traffic management agencies to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the annual pilgrimage.(KINS)
