Historic Participation: 1000 Female Riders Set for ASMITA MTB Cycling League in Srinagar
SRINAGAR, Sep 17 (KINS): In a significant boost for women’s sports in India, a wave of female mountain bikers will converge in Srinagar next month for a landmark event. Organized under the prestigious ASMITA banner, a flagship initiative of the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), and in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Cycling Association and the Sports Authority of India (SAI), the ‘ASMITA MTB Cycling State / UT Women League’ promises to be one of the most significant exclusively female cycling events of the year.
This ambitious event, which is set to take place in the scenic landscapes of Nishat, Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir on the 18th and 19th of September, 2026, is poised to welcome around 800-1000 determined female athletes. This large-scale turnout reflects the growing enthusiasm for women’s cycling and highlights the successful promotion of the sport under the Government of India’s Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
The event, strongly tied to the Khelo India initiative with the tagline ‘Khel Se Hi Hai Pehchan’, serves as more than just a competition. It is a powerful platform designed to empower and encourage young women to take up cycling, not just as a pastime, but as a discipline and a viable path in professional sports.
Building upon the successful framework of the Khelo India programs, the ASMITA league aims to discover and nurture fresh talent from the grass-roots level, providing opportunities for female cyclists to showcase their skills, experience competitive racing at a high standard, and potentially make their mark on the national stage.
