Srinagar, Sep 23 (KINS): The Jammu & Kashmir Government is implementing a scientific, multi-pronged strategy to address the growing stray dog population across the Union Territory, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stated while responding to a question in the Legislative Assembly.
“The government is strengthening Animal Birth Control (ABC) and Anti-Rabies Vaccination (ARV) programmes to systematically sterilize and vaccinate stray animals. Existing ABC facilities are being expanded, while new centres and dedicated veterinary staff are being deployed across Urban Local Bodies,” Chief Minister informed.
“Under the National Rabies Control Programme, anti-rabies treatment is also being made available at health facilities. Meanwhile, solid waste management systems and regulated feeding points are being strengthened to reduce open food sources”.
The Chief Minister has further approved the creation of dedicated Expert Animal Birth Control verticals under Jammu Smart City Limited and Srinagar Smart City Limited. The initiative will involve hiring specialized personnel trained in modern ABC protocols for deployment across Urban Local Bodies to address the stray dog population scientifically.(KINS)
