Rape accused arrested by police Ram Munshi Bagh of Srinagar

Srinagar, Mar 11 : Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested an individual accused of rape in Srinagar district.

“Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh received a complaint of an alleged rape of a minor girl by a shopkeeper. Accordingly, a case FIR No. 20/2020 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh and further investigation in the matter was initiated,” a police spokesman said in a statement.

A police team immediately tracked the accused and arrested him. He has been identified as Fazil Salim resident of Batwara, Srinagar. He has been shifted to Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh where he remains in custody, the spokesman said.

“As a part of investigation necessary medico-legal examination of the victim has been carried out. All standard operating procedures as mandated under POCSO act are being followed to deter criminals from committing such a heinous crime,” he said.

Further investigation in the matter is in progress, he added.
