Police to write DM Baramulla, requesting probe into Sopore incident: IGP

Baramulla, Sep 17,: A day after the death of Sopore youth, Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar Thursday said that District Development Commissioner Baramulla will order a probe into the killing of the youth.

Police had said that Sopore youth Irfan Ahmed Dar fled from custody and later his body was found, a claim vehemently refuted by family who said that Irfan was killed in police custody.

IGP during a press conference in Srinagar said that he has asked SP concerned to write a letter to DM Baramulla to probe the matter.

“He was picked up and grenade was recovered from him. He tried to flee away but was not fired upon by the forces,” Kumar added.
He said his body was found later on. He was buried in Sonmarg.

Political parties had also demanded a thorough probe into the incident.

In response to a question about missing Bemina Scholar, IGP said that he has joined militant ranks, however, keeping the requests of family into consideration and their track-record, police is investigating the matter. (KNT)
