Jammu , August 16 ( KINS) : As the Taliban take over Afghanistan, former Jammu & Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) SP Vaid said another 9/11 attack could be planned from the war-torn country. The former top cop, in an exclusive conversation with India Today, said that the developments in Afghanistan will embolden militants in J&K.
He added that “Pakistan’s ISI may ask the Taliban to divert some of its militants to Jammu & Kashmir to revive terror operations.”
“Pakistan will now shift terror training camps of Jaish and Lashkar from Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir to Afghanistan to avoid international scrutiny. Anti-India militant groups would get safe havens in Afghanistan,” the former police chief said.
The Taliban have breached Kabul and entered the presidential palace. President Ashraf Ghani fled the country hours ahead of Kabul’s fall and headed to Tajikistan, where he was denied refuge. Ghani then reached Oman. He earlier took to social media to say that he left the country to avoid bloodshed.
Stating that the Taliban’s rise in Afghanistan will have implications on Jammu & Kashmir and entire South Asia, Vaid remembered how in 1999 the Taliban had helped Pakistani militants to hijack the Indian Airlines flight IC-814 after which India was forced to release Maulana Masood Azhar from Kot Bhalwal Jail. Vaid was DIG-Jammu when the incident happened.
“We need to be very cautious. We may have to deal with the alliance of China, Pakistan and the Taliban,” Vaid said, predicting challenging times for India. The statement holds significance as Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan endorsed the Taliban takeover, saying that the Afghans have “broken the shackles of slavery”.
