Srinagar Jan 06 (KINS): Jammu and Kashmir faces a concerning road safety issue, witnessing an average of two to three daily fatalities in road accidents, exceeding the national average.
The twin capitals and the Chenab valley, particularly Doda district, are hotspots for accidents, attributed to challenging terrain, increased vehicles, inadequate infrastructure, negligent driving, and worn-out vehicles. A recent tragic incident in Doda claimed 37 lives, highlighting the severity of the situation. Official data accessed by Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) reveals that 4200 road accident deaths over the last five years, averaging 800 lives lost annually in the Union Territory, with a daily toll of two to three deaths.(KINS)
