COVID-19 patient dies: Was suffering from multiple ailments, say docs

Srinagar, April 17 (KINS): A COVID-19 patient who died on Friday at JVC SKIMS hospital Bemina was suffering from multiple ailments, doctors say.

A 70-year-old coronavirus patents from Sopore Baramulla died on Friday afternoon, taking death toll in Jammu and Kashmir to five. The man from Arampora Sopore was being treated at the hospital since April 2.

Principal SKIMS Medical College, Bemina Dr Riyaz Ahmad Untoo said the COVID-19 patient was suffering from various ailments.

“He had co-morbidities of hypertension and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. He was also a chronic smoker. There were multiple factors for his death,” Dr Untoo told news agency KINS.

He said the patient was taken to various hospitals before brought to JVC Bemina. “Initially he was tested negative then taken to Baramulla hospital after which he was tested positive,” he said.

Another doctor said the patient had developed symptoms of coronavirus and was then admitted to GMC Baramulla.  “He was referred to JVC Bemina and was being managed in the high-dependency ward. He also had hypertension and pneumonia,” the doctor said.

Meanwhile, Dr Untoo said three more patients are being treated in the high-dependency unit of the hospital. “All are responding. No one is ventilator. All have saturation level above 90,” he told KINS.

He said there are 95 COVID-19 patients at the hospital including 54 males.

At least 317 persons have tested positive for the coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir. Of the five Covid deaths in Jammu and Kashmir, two dead are from Baramulla, one each from Srinagar, Bandipora, and Udhampur districts.
