DGP visits Kulgam encounter site as operation continues

Kulgam, Sept 08 (KINS): Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Monday visited the site of an ongoing encounter in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, where security forces are engaged in an anti-terror operation.

According to officials, the encounter broke out earlier today after security forces launched a search operation in the area. Intermittent firing is still being reported, and forces remain on high alert.

News agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) reported that DGP Prabhat reviewed the situation on the ground and was briefed by senior officers supervising the operation.

The operation is still underway, and further details are awaited.

According to officials, a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and two other soldiers were injured in the initial exchange of fire. All the injured personnel were evacuated to hospital, where as per media reports one of them later passed away.

Earlier in the day, security forces had gunned down two terrorists in the operation. The joint anti-terror operation was launched by the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF after receiving specific intelligence about terrorist movement in the forested region.(KINS)
