Srinagar, May 24 (KINS): Director General of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), Lieutenant General Virendra Vats, on Sunday said that the Special National Integration Camp held in Srinagar aims to promote unity, discipline, and understanding of India’s diversity among the youth.
Speaking with the media on the sidelines of a function at Badami Bagh, Lt Gen Vats as per news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) said the NCC regularly organises Special National Integration Camps across the country where around 300 to 400 cadets participate and receive training. He said the main purpose of these camps is to help cadets understand the country’s cultural diversity and adopt a disciplined lifestyle.
He said the ongoing camp in Srinagar has brought together around 340 cadets from different parts of India.
Lt Gen Vats said the NCC is working to make the organisation more aspirational for youth across the country. He informed that the strength of NCC cadets in India is being increased from 17 lakh to 20 lakh.
He further said that girls now make up around 42 percent of NCC cadets across the country, while boys account for 58 percent.
He said efforts are being made to improve infrastructure in the region to encourage greater participation, especially among girls. He also announced that India’s biggest girls’ National Integration Camp will soon be organised in Kashmir.
The DG NCC added that plans are also being discussed with the administration for developing NCC infrastructure and setting up a training academy in the region.(KINS)
