BJP’s Tarun Chugh slams National Conference for remarks on Maharaja Hari Singh

Srinagar, March 07 (KINS): Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) National General Secretary and Jammu and Kashmir in-charge, Tarun Chugh, has strongly condemned the National Conference’s remarks on Maharaja Hari Singh, calling them an affront to the region’s history and identity.

Chugh emphasized that Maharaja Hari Singh’s contributions to Jammu and Kashmir remain unparalleled, not just in governance but in shaping the socio-economic landscape of the state. “He was a visionary leader who spearheaded progressive reforms, modernization, and inclusive governance. His historic decision to integrate Jammu and Kashmir with the Indian Republic was a turning point in our history,” he said while addressing the media.

Lashing out at the National Conference, Chugh accused some political leaders of distorting history for their selfish motives. “It is unfortunate that certain individuals, driven by narrow political agendas, continue to insult Maharaja Hari Singh Ji. These attacks are not only an insult to the Maharaja but also an attempt to hurt the sentiments of millions who revere him,” he asserted.

Highlighting the Maharaja’s legacy, Chugh pointed out that his policies safeguarded the rights of marginalized communities, promoted social justice, and fostered communal harmony. “Any attempt to malign his legacy is unacceptable and must be retracted immediately,” he demanded.

Expressing deep disappointment, the BJP leader called upon National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah and his party to clarify their stance and withdraw the remarks. He warned that such statements only create unnecessary controversy and hurt public sentiments.

Reiterating the BJP’s commitment to historical truth, Chugh also addressed the July 13, 1931, incident, calling it a “black day and a day of betrayal.” He affirmed that the BJP will continue to counter any attempt to distort history.

“The people of Jammu and Kashmir will never tolerate such insulting statements. Any forces attempting to undermine the contributions of great leaders will be given a befitting reply,” Chugh declared, adding that the BJP, along with the people of the region, is prepared to take every necessary step to safeguard the honor of their historical icons.(KINS)
