Deputy CM Surinder Choudhary visits Cloudburst-hit Kathua villages, assures full support for relief and rehabilitation

Jammu, Aug 18 (KINS): Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Monday visited Kathua district to meet the families affected by the recent cloudburst and landslides, assuring them of full government support for relief, rehabilitation, and long-term assistance.

The tragedy struck in the early hours of Sunday when a cloudburst and subsequent landslides hit Jodh Ghati village of Rajbagh and Bagra village of Janglote, killing seven people, including five children, and injuring 15 others. The deceased belonged to four families, who have been left devastated by the sudden disaster.

Deputy CM Choudhary, accompanied by National Conference’s Jammu unit president Rattan Lal Gupta, visited the affected villages to assess the ground situation. He interacted with families who are currently staying in relief camps and promised that every possible help will be extended to them.

He instructed district officials to ensure immediate financial aid, proper shelter, food supplies, and medical assistance for the survivors. Choudhary also reaffirmed the Omar Abdullah-led government’s commitment to not just short-term relief but also rehabilitation measures to help families rebuild their lives.

Later, Choudhary visited the Government Medical College (GMC) Kathua, where seven injured victims are undergoing treatment. He directed doctors and hospital staff to provide the best possible medical care without any delay. The Deputy CM also visited the Military Hospital in Pathankot, Punjab, to meet other injured persons admitted there.(KINS)
