Highway opens: Hundreds of vehicles enter Kashmir valley

Srinagar: Traffic authorities have allowed the movements of vehicles on the Jammu-Srinagar highway as hundreds of vehicles have been allowed to proceed towards Srinagar since yesterday afternoon.
“Already over 1,400 vehicles were allowed to cross the Jawahar Tunnel and reach the Kashmir Valley,” a traffic official said on Wednesday.
The strategic highway was restored for one-way traffic on Tuesday after seven days following avalanches and landslides.
He said that since Tuesday afternoon some 700 trucks carrying petroleum products, vegetables, poultry, mutton and other essentials crossed the Jawahar Tunnel to reach the valley.
Today also stranded traffic has been allowed to move on the highway to decongest the road. Meanwhile, vehicles carrying stranded passengers have also been allowed to proceed towards Srinagar as the weather has shown some improvement today.
