JK set to receive another spell of snow, rains from this evening

Srinagar, Feb 20 : As weather remained cloudy throughout the day, the weatherman on Wednesday predicted rains and snow till Thursday afternoon, saying that Jammu would receive moderate rains besides hailstorm.

Deputy Director of Meteorological department (MeT), Mukhtar Ahmad said, “There is possibility of light rains in plains of Kashmir from this evening while as hilly areas would receive another snowfall.”
He added moderate rains would also lash Jammu region while there is possibility of hailstorm in the region as well.
Ahmad further added Batote and other adjacent areas would receive heavy rains from his evening as per the fresh forecast.
However, MeT Deputy Director informed that weather would significantly improve from Thursday afternoon. “The weather would remain dry till next few days from Thursday afternoon,” he said.
Meanwhile, the overnight rains triggered landslides on Srinagar-Jammu highway following which authorities had halted the traffic movement on 300 km long stretch.
“At few places in Ramsoo-Ramban sector, landslides occurred on Sgr-Jmu highway triggered by fresh rains in the intervening night of Tuesday-Wednesday,” officials said.
The traffic as per officials was temporarily halted as ‘a precautionary measure’.
They said traffic on the highway will be allowed after the road is cleared. (KNS)
