Protests staged in parts of Valley against custodial killing of school teacher

Srinagar, Mar 21, : Local Sikh community Thursday joined the protest march that was carried out by locals including the family members of School Principal Rizwan Asad Pandit against his custodial death in Awantipora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

The protesters sought the time-bound investigation in the case. They said that custodial killing of Rizwan was a naked act of terrorism. The protesters were joined by the members of local Sikh community demanding justice to the family.

The protesters said that Rizwan was murdered in custody while his body bore torture marks. “The injury marks were visible all over his body,” said his brother, Mubashir Asad. “He was brutally tortured,” he said.

Mubashir said Rizwan’s left eye had turned black, and the left side of his face was swollen. “There were severe injury marks on his thigh, cut marks and deep burn marks were visible on his thigh. There were stitches on his head,” he alleged.

A protest was also organized by traders in South Kashmir’s Anantnag on the call of Joint Resistance Leadership. A large number of traders carrying banners and placards while demanding justice sought the intervention of Governor Satya Pal Malik.

They said the policemen involved in this brutal murder should be immediately taken to task. “People in Kashmir have lost faith in the system and they know the outcome of the probe. We want swift action against the killers,” the protesting traders told news agency CNS.
