‘Nobody will be allowed to misuse social networking sites: SP Cyber Police Kmr

Srinagar, Mar 17 (KINS): The Jammu and Kashmir police Tuesday said that they have managed to curb on rumor-mongering because of strict measures.
They also said that police is also monitoring all the social networking sites in Kashmir and nobody will be allowed to misuse social media.
In an interview to Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS), Tahir Ashraf, SP and In-charge of Cyber Police Kashmir said that the police have managed to control rumor mongering in the valley. “In the past that miscreants were using social media to spread rumours and instigate people, however after strict measures the police have managed to curb on rumor mongering,” the SP said.
The official maintained that the administration was taking action against those who were spreading rumours.
“We have clear orders to collect details of all such people who are participating in spreading wrong information, he said.
The official said that cases of hooliganism and mischievous elements creating disturbances were reported from certain areas but were dealt with by security agencies.
Ashraf further said that the rumour mongers now feel fear that if they post anything on social media, they will be charged. “Whatever is happening in social media police is well aware of that. Our message is clear that if anybody tries to spread a rumor or indulge in any other illegal activity the legal action will be taken,” he warned.
He said that to prevent misuse of social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, Kashmir Cyber Police had already registered several cases.
“The cases were lodged on the basis of continuous reports we were receiving on the misuse of social media, who defied the government orders and misused the social media platforms to create unrest in Jammu and Kashmir valley,” said Tahir Ashraf.
The J&K government had on January 14 banned all social media platforms by saying that to curb their “misuse by miscreants for propagating false information” days before it partially restored internet service in the Valley.
However government in the last week of February lifted the ban on social media. (KINS)
