Mirwaiz placed under house arrest ahead of ‘human rights week’ protests

Government Monday placed Hurriyat Conference (M) chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest to prevent him from participating in candle light vigil against “human rights violations”.

A spokesperson of the amalgam said that a posse of police reached Mirwaiz’s Nigeen residence and detained him inside.

The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) of which Mirwaiz is a part beside Syed Ali Geelani and Yasin Malik have urged people to observe human rights week beginning from today till December 9.
