New Delhi: Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has blamed the ‘orange jersey’ for ending team India’s winning streak at the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup in England. Mufti took to Twitter soon after India’s loss to the hosts to take a dig at India’s new jersey, suggesting that it was ‘orange’ colour in the new ‘away’ kit of team India that was responsible for the defeat.
“Call me superstitious but I would say it’s the jersey that ended India’s winning streak in the #ICCWorldCup2019,” Mehbooba Mufti tweeted.
Before the match, Mufti had also jokingly said that at least cricket got India and Pakistan* “on the same page”. Her tweet highlighted the interesting situation in the points table of the ongoing world cup where a win for India would have increased the changes of arch-rivals Pakistan to secure a place in the semis.
And if that were to happen then India would have locked horns with Pakistan for the second time in the tournament.
“Pakistani cricket fans are rooting for India to win the match against England. Chalo kum say kum cricket ke bahaane, for a change both countries are on the same page,” Mufti had tweeted.
As for the match, India lost to the hosts by 31 runs at the Edgbaston in Birmingham. Batting first, the Eoin Morgan-led Englishmen posted an impressive total of 337/7 in 50 overs. India’s batting stumbled from the start when Rahul walked back to pavilion in the third over of the match. The ‘men in orange’ failed to accelerate during the last 10 over, triggering the asking run-rate read 10 per over.
