Fresh snowfall in parts of Kashmir

The intense cold wave has decreased on Monday after Kashmir Valley and several areas in Pir Panchal region received fresh snowfall from Saturday, the meteorological department said.

The official said the fresh snowfall brought some relief to the residents in the Valley from the intense cold conditions as the night temperature showed improvement.

Fresh snowfall occurred everywhere in the Valley except Srinagar city which received light rain with traces of snow.

Higher reaches, including Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonamarg, Pir Panchal mountain range and other places, received moderate snowfall.

The minimum temperature was minus 0.8 degrees Celsius in Srinagar while the mercury in Qazigund in south Kashmir settled at a low of minus 1.8 degrees Celsius.

Gulmarg, the famous skiing resort in north Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 8.0 degrees Celsius.

The night temperature in Pahalgam – the famous health resort which also serves as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath Yatra – settled at a low of minus 3.0 degrees.

Kokernag town recorded a low of minus 2.2 degrees Celsius while Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a low of 1.1 degrees Celsius last night.

Jammu recorded a low of 8.7 degrees Celsius while Batote recorded 1.2, Banihal recorded 1.4, and Bhaderwah recorded 0.9 degree Celsius.
