Government continues to ignore Kashmiri newspapers

Srinagar, Mar 10, : On the eve of international women’s day, Cultural Academy organized a two day program at Government Women’s college Srinagar here.

The program was held with the utmost significance on Kashmiri language.

On the occasion the participants include Kashmiri writers, poets and artists emphasized on the significance and promotion of Kashmiri language.

The women poets and writers who participated in the program told media that despite tall claims about the promotion of Kashmiri language and literature, the ground reality portrays a different story.

They said that the promotion of Kashmiri language and literature is confined to seminars and programs.

“Sadly the introduction of Kashmiri literature in schools is existing only by name. There is no government attention towards the publication of newspapers in Kashmiri language,” they lamented.

Adding the department of information Jammu and Kashmir neglected the role of existing Kashmiri publications.

The women speakers grieved that their write ups doesn’t find any space in the absence of Kashmiri publications.

They said they had been expecting the current director information J&K, Dr. Sehrish Asghar who is also a woman would promote the Kashmiri publications but nothing fruitful was done.

Meanwhile, the media persons sought the information about the government advertisements from the management of two Kashmiri publications, ‘Kahwat’ and ‘Sangarmal.’

It was informed by the management that Kashmiri publications receive only Rs 30 lakhs as government advertisements.

The management of Kashmiri publications grieved that they are witnessing step-motherly treatment from the government.
