Covid-19 situation under control, Death of pregnant woman inquired into: LG’s Advisor RR Bhatnagar

‘Police, paramilitary forces playing great role to prevent spread of virus’

Srinagar, April 27 (KINS) : Advisor to Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu, Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar Monday said that the government is inquiring the death of a pregnant woman in South Kashmir’s Anantnag who tested positive, a day after her death, adding, that “if anyone found involved in mishandling the case, action will follow.”

He also said that thegovernment was doing its best to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus and the situation is under control.

“The incident is being enquired into as we have ordered an inquiry into it (pregnant lady’s death),” Bhatnagar told news agency KINS in an exclusive chat.

He said that if anybody is found involved in the laxity or the treatment was delayed as alleged by some of the relatives of the deceased woman, “Strict action will follow.”

The family members of the woman had alleged that she was delayed the treatment which added to her complications after which she died.

The doctors, who later operated her, had taken her samples for testing, the results of which came as positive for the Covid-19 pandemic, a day after the woman’s death.

Lauding the role of policer and health department the advisor to LG, said that police and paramilitary forces are playing a great role on ground to prevent Covid-19 spread.

“So far, we have been able to contain the virus. Our mortality rate didn’t increase, which is an achievement,” Bhatnagar said. “We have been able to prevent the spread too. This is all because of the efforts and hard work of our police and other forces. Ambulances are plying normally and their travel is being facilitated by the men on ground. They are doing multiple tasks –maintaining law and order, fighting militancy and implementing lockdown. For this all, they deserve a great round of applauds” Bhatnagar said

He said that health department too is performing its role effectively. “So far we have been able to contain the pandemic and that too is because of the people’s cooperation ,” he said.

The Advisor further told KINS that the testing capacity has been doubled which is helping the government to go for robust testing.

“So far situation is under control and we are trying our best to contain the Covid-19 spread further,” he said.

He said that the authorities have been directed to ensure that adequate quantity of PPE kits, medical supplies and other equipment should be made available in all the hospitals to deal with the situation.

He added that adequate quantities of medicine and other supplies are available in order to deal with any contingency. (KINS)
