LMD penalises Drug Stores for violating Labeling norms

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 10: Legal Metrology Department (LMD) today booked three drug-stores for offering sale of Pulse-Oximeters without MRP and other mandatory declarations and a penal sum of Rs. 25000 was slapped on the drug-stores and distributors for the lapses.

A team of officials headed by Dy. Controller LMD conducted inspections of about 30 drug-stores in the Srinagar city to ascertain the genuiness of the complaints that the drug-stores are offering for sale the Pulse-Oximeters (imported) without Maximum Retail Price, month and year of import address of Importer and Customer-care details.

During the inspection, it was found from the bills that retail drug-stores have bought Oximeters from the distributor within a range of Rs.600 to Rs.1200 and they were found selling them in between the range of Rs. 1000 to Rs. 2000.

Under Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, it is the right of the consumer to know about the price of the product and manufacturer details.

The drug-stores cannot offer for sale the surgical/medical devices in contravention of aforesaid rules. The consumers may contact the department on the Phone No. 0194-2490390 during office hours to file their complaints
