Srinagar, Sep 25 (KINS): The Army Friday said that over 205 boys and girls from several villages of district Baramulla participated in the Run for fun event organised by 29 Rashtriya Rifles at Parihaspora.
According to the Army statement issued to news agency KINS the run was divided into two categories, 10 kms for boys and 5 kms for girls. “The event also included a Walkathalon for 5 km for both boys and girls. Boys and girls of age groups 10-20yrs participated in the event. The marathon conveyed the message of fit and healthy society and peace and harmony in the Valley. Children participating in the event ran the entire distance with full zeal and vigour. The event was attended by Hazira Begum, BDC Singhpora and Mehdi Hussain, BDC Ganistan Block along with several Sarpanchs and Numberdars of the nearby villages”.
The statement further reads that the first 20 finishers, ten boys and ten girls, were named Peace Champions and they received prizes. “The event was one of its kind and was highly appreciated by all the attendees. Villagers appreciated the effort and said that such events will go a long way in helping peace prevail in the valley. “The event has given us an opportunity to embrace freedom and brotherhood. It has also given us an opportunity to showcase our talent and fitness. We often feel shy from participating in such event, but today I am very happy because I have participated.” said one of the female participant” the statement said.(KINS)
