DC inaugurates Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhyaan in Budgam

Budgam Nov 05 (KINS): A campaign “Nasha Mukt Baharat” was inaugurated today by the Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Shahbaz Ahmaz Mirza at New Conference hall here Thursday. During his inaugural address, the Deputy Commissioner stressed for pro-active role to curb the menace of drug  abuse in district. The DC emphasized that PRI functionaries along with civil society has to play a vital role in creating massive awareness  among the masses about drug abuse across the district. He instructed that strict action as warranted under law shall be initiated against the offenders found involved in this heinous crime.  The vulnerable areas of the district shall be under strict surveillance and the public in these areas are appealed to cooperate with the district administration to curb this menace, he added.
The workshop was presided over by District and Sessions judge Budgam Raja Shujat Ali Khan. In his address the Raja Shujat appreciated the District Administration for conducting the workshop. As an alarming situation Raja Shujat Ali informed the workshop that a survey done by the Mental Health Department J&K in District Srinagar and Kulgam which shows drugs worth 3.73 crores are consumed by drug addicts in every month.  He said Poppy cultivation is an offence and shall not be allowed in any capacity.
Raja Shujat urged the participants to play their role and make senior citizens and civil society aware about the outcome of drug menace. He said the public particularly need to be sensitized about the hazardous effects of poppy cultivation in connection with drug abuse.
Secretary DLSA through PowerPoint presentation highlighted the importance of Youth in building   a prosperous society. The secretary also spoke about various provisions of law dealing with prevention and eradication of Psychotropic and consumption of contraband and stressed upon the role of judiciary in combating drug abuse in society.
In her address, DSWO Dr. Farhana Asgar emphasized that a strong mechanism needs to be adopted against drug abuse and all line Departments have a collective responsibility to create a society, free of drug abuse.
The representatives of NGOs assured that as social obligation, NGOs shall always be available and come forward, provide all necessary help in creating massive awareness against the drug abuse in the District. 
SP Budgam while speaking on the occasion said that drug addiction control starts from the home and District Police administration shall provide all necessary support to eradicate this evil from society. (KINS)
