Jammu, Jul 27 (KINS ) To keep an eye on its vehicles and movement, Jammu Municipal Corporation will soon be equipping them with Automatic Vehicle Location System (AVLS) technology.
A senior official of JMC told that the Corporation will soon be installing Automatic Vehicle Location System (AVLS) technology based on GPS and GPRS in all the vehicles, adding, ”it will help the Corporation to locate each vehicle besides its use and misuse. It will also prevent unwanted oil consumption and rigging in vehicles.”
The official also revealed that all these activities will be monitored from a Control Room coming up in the JMC Complex.
”The AVLS technology will be installed in all vehicles in coming days at a cost of about Rs 17 lakhs for which preparations are in full swing,” he revealed.
He said that the tenders are invited while the contract will be awarded to the lowest bidder, further adding, ”once that GPS system will be installed in the vehicles, the control room will also be made functional.”
Last year, the Jammu Municipal Corporation had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Oil Corporation.
The General House of Jammu Municipal Corporation had decided that GPS should be installed in all the vehicles in the wake of alleged complaints of rigging and misuse of vehicles besides oil consumption worth lakhs every month.
”The MoU (contract) with IOC is expiring on August 1 and may also be revived,” he said.
As per reports for oil consumption, in the month of January, Rs 43,27,647 was spent and Rs 39,94,871 in the month of February.
”Installation of GPS System in all the vehicles will benefit the Corporation and there will be a total transparency in the working,” the official added.
Confirming installation of GPS systems in vehicles, Jammu Municipal Corporation Mayor, Chander Mohan Gupta told UNI, ”this exercise will help in monitoring our vehicles.”
”Efforts are on to provide better facilities to the people by the Jammu Municipal Corporation on war footing and computerized system is being created to bring transparency,” he said adding, ”in the General House it was decided to install the GPS system and now from the Control Room, every activity will be monitored.”
”All initiatives are being taken with an aim to make Jammu a Smart City,” said the Mayor.( Source UNI)
