Srinagar Mar 13 (KINS): With Kashmir Golf Course running in losses, authorities have decided to cancel membership of defaulters if they fail to pay their membership fees.

The Kashmir Golf Course (KGC) with its splendid location along the Srinagar city’s main avenue on Moulana Azad Road is the oldest golf course built in 1887 by the British.

However, over the years, it has witnessed heavy losses. “The KGC is running in heavy losses. We are not even able to generate salaries of employees from its revenue. The maintenance also cost lakhs of rupees annually. There are some members who are not even paying membership fees to the KGC,” a senior official told news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS).

The golf course flanked by mighty Chinar and poplar trees on all sides is equipped with 18 holes. It is spread over 52 acres of verdant land.

The official said it has been decided that membership of defaulter members will be cancelled if they don’t clear their dues immediately.

Administrator KGC Javid Bakhsi confirmed that many members of the KGC are defaulters.

“We are dependent on membership fees of our members to run the KGC. It is quite difficult to manage the day-to-day affairs of the KGC as some members are not paying their membership fees. We have sent them notices, if they don’t pay then we will terminate their membership,” Javid told news agency KINS.
