Srinagar, Jan 16: In a solemn address at the closing ceremony of the 12th Martyrs’ Memorial Cricket Tournament in Kathua, Director General of Police (DGP) for Jammu and Kashmir, R.R. Swain, shed light on the alarming connection between narcotics, terrorism, and its financial backing.
The DGP, who paid floral tributes to fallen J&K Police heroes, lauded the tournament organizers, the people of Kathua, and the families of martyrs for their unwavering support.
Expressing profound gratitude, DGP Swain acknowledged the sacrifices of over 1600 J&K Police personnel among the 6000 brave hearts from different forces nationwide. The tournament, initiated by the brother of martyr Shri Manjeet Singh, and institutionalized by former DGP Kuldeep Khoda, witnessed 16 teams participating, reflecting the spirit of remembrance and resilience.
DGP Swain emphasized the robust institutional strength of the Jammu and Kashmir Police Pariwar, vowing continued support for the families of fallen heroes. Addressing the media, he outlined comprehensive welfare schemes funded under the Police Contributory Fund, with additional initiatives planned for the future.
Turning to the pressing issue of drug menace, DGP Swain underscored that a significant portion of drugs originates from across borders, highlighting its direct link to terrorism and financial sustenance. Promising an unprecedented escalation in the fight against drugs, he announced specific actions against narcotics dealers while assuring support for victims.
The Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for Jammu underscored the force’s commitment to honoring martyrs through sports events, citing the “Sevara” scheme’s efforts in addressing issues and providing support to the families. The SSP Kathua outlined the tournament’s objectives, while the President of Shaheed Welfare Committee thanked the J&K Police for their consistent financial support.
Verma Cricket Club Ludhiana emerged victorious among 16 participating teams, as the tournament served as a poignant tribute to J&K Police sacrifices and inspiration for future generations. DGP Swain and other officers distributed prizes, recognizing outstanding players and contributors to the successful tournament.
The closing ceremony, attended by dignitaries including DIG JSK Range, DC Kathua, AIG Welfare PHQ, SSP Kathua, and other officers, drew a large gathering of cricket enthusiasts, affirming the enduring spirit of remembrance and solidarity.
