Srinagar, Apr 26: National Conference Vice-President, Omar Abdullah, issued a stern warning to the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday, urging them to refrain from any potential rescheduling of the Lok Sabha polls in the Anantnag-Rajouri constituency.
Addressing a press conference, Abdullah voiced concerns over alleged plans by certain parties, including the BJP and its affiliates, along with administrative bodies and the ECI, to postpone the elections citing poor road conditions on the Mughal road.
Emphasizing the importance of considering the perspectives of all political parties, Abdullah stressed that such actions could undermine the electoral process in Jammu and Kashmir.
He criticized the ECI’s recent letter on the matter, questioning the rationale behind it, especially since certain parties were not even contesting in the region. Abdullah raised the hypothetical scenario of seeking polling rescheduling in other states and highlighted the need for fairness and equal consideration by the ECI.
Asserting that any campaigning difficulties should be addressed through alternative routes, Abdullah called on the ECI to respect the opinions of all parties, warning of potential conclusions drawn if their concerns were not heeded. He announced plans to formally communicate their objections to the ECI through a letter, signaling their intent to challenge any perceived biases in the electoral process.
