Election commission responds to requests, shifts poll date for Anantnag-Rajouri Parliamentary Constituency

Srinagar, Apr 30: In response to numerous representations from political parties in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, the Election Commission of India has taken decisive action to address concerns regarding the fairness of the electoral process. The Commission, after careful consideration of logistical challenges and barriers to campaigning in the Anantnag-Rajouri Parliamentary Constituency, has announced a revision to the poll date.
Originally scheduled for May 7, 2024, the poll day for the Anantnag-Rajouri constituency has been rescheduled to May 25, 2024.
This decision, made under Section 56 of the Representation of People Act, 1951, reflects the Commission’s commitment to ensuring equal opportunities for all contesting candidates and upholding the integrity of the electoral process.
The move comes as a response to concerns raised by political parties regarding the hindrances posed by logistical, communication, and natural barriers to connectivity in the constituency. The revised date aims to alleviate these challenges and facilitate a more equitable and accessible electoral environment for candidates and voters alike.
With the revised poll date, candidates will have additional time to engage with voters and campaign effectively, thereby enhancing the democratic process in the Anantnag-Rajouri constituency.
The Election Commission’s proactive approach underscores its dedication to conducting free, fair, and transparent elections across the country.
