Commissioner SMC reviews AMRUT 2.0 Projects Projects aimed to boost Srinagar’s Water Supply

SRINAGAR, JUNE 12: The Commissioner SMC, Dr. Owais Ahmad today conducted a review meeting to address the water supply challenges in Srinagar city and directed the acceleration of projects under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0.
During the meeting, various key projects under AMRUT 2.0 were discussed in detail. These included Hydraulic Modelling, the construction of a 4 Million Gallon per Day (MGD) Water Treatment Plant at WWD Srinagar, and the installation of Overhead Tanks (OHTs) at multiple locations across the city.
The meeting was attended by the Joint Commissioner, Joint Commissioner (Works), ADP Planning, all Executive Engineers, officials from line departments.
It was revealed that out of the 22 identified projects under AMRUT 2.0, 12 Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) have been approved, with the remaining 10 DPRs expected to be submitted within the set timeframe.
Following a thorough deliberation, Commissioner emphasized the need to expedite the formulation of the pending DPRs and to promptly initiate the tendering process for the approved projects. This strategic approach aims to enhance the existing water supply infrastructure, thereby providing much-needed relief to areas in Srinagar currently facing water scarcity.
The Commissioner particularly underscored the urgency of installing smart meters to ensure an uninterrupted 24×7 water supply to the residents of Srinagar.
The Commissioner’s directive reflects the administration’s strong commitment in improving the water supply services in Srinagar and addressing the pressing water-related challenges faced by the city. The swift implementation of these projects is expected to significantly bolster Srinagar’s water supply infrastructure, ensuring better service delivery to its residents.
