Thousands of Fish Found Dead in Srinagar’s Tsoont Koel

Srinagar, July 7 (KINS): Thousands of fish have been found dead in Tsoont Koel, a local stream near the Barbar Shah area of Srinagar.
Officials attribute the mass die-off to a lack of oxygen and pollution.

An official from the fisheries department explained that the primary cause is oxygen depletion in the water, a common occurrence during the summer months. High temperatures and humidity reduce oxygen levels, which can be fatal for fish.

Pollution significantly exacerbates the situation. Waste disposal and contaminants from surrounding areas further degrade water quality, intensifying oxygen depletion, the official added.

Local residents expressed their distress over the incident, noting the impact on livelihoods dependent on fishing. “This is not just about the death of fish; it’s about the entire ecological balance and our means of sustenance being threatened,” said one resident.
