Nazir Ganaie Receives Journalism Excellence Award

NEW DELHI, AUG 14: Journalist and documentary filmmaker Nazir Ganaie has been honored with the Exchange4media Journalism Excellence Award in the 40 under 40 category.
Ganaie received the prestigious accolade at a distinguished ceremony held at the Indian International Centre, New Delhi, today.
Amid Kashmir’s complex and evolving landscape, Nazir Ganaie has dedicated nearly two decades to navigating the intricate currents of journalism.
Trained at the Media Education Research Centre (MERC) at the University of Kashmir and having completed a specialized module at the Asian College of Journalism in rural reporting, Ganaie understands that journalism is not just about reporting but about uncovering truths that resonate deeply with humanity.
Despite the overwhelming political turmoil, Ganaie has focused on quieter yet equally significant stories related to health, arts, culture, environment, and documentary filmmaking. His filmmaking pursuits, bolstered by specialized training in Cinematography and Screenplay Writing from the FTII, Pune, have led to notable works such as “Kashmir’s Sinking Boats,” “Rabab: A Journey of Soulful Strings,” and the music composition for films like “Transgenders of Kashmir” and “Blurred Hopes.” Additionally, his role as a Rabab player aims to bridge gaps between communities through music.
Ganaie’s innovative storytelling approach includes leveraging digital platforms to enhance narrative delivery and reception. His recent documentary, “Gandbal Boat Capsizing Tragedy: Echoes of a Capsizing Boat,” stands out as a particularly impactful piece.
Ganaie currently heads Multimedia at Kashmir Observer. In addition to his role there, he regularly covers Kashmir for Awaz the Voice, a New Delhi-based media house.
Pertinently, the exchange4media Group hosted the third edition of the English Journalism 40 Under 40 on Tuesday, August 13, at the India International Centre (IIC) in New Delhi. The awards ceremony celebrated outstanding English journalists under the age of 40, recognizing excellence across print, television, and digital mediums.
The e4m English Journalism 40 Under 40 list highlights professionals who have made significant contributions and achieved remarkable success in their careers. This includes editors, reporters, anchors, marketing and digital media experts, videographers, news producers, and video editors.
The awards honor excellence across various domains of journalism and spotlight individuals who have made a significant impact with their innovative work. The ceremony acknowledged the achievements of journalists, media professionals, and other key figures who have demonstrated exceptional talent and dedication in their fields. Editor in Chief, Hindustan Times, Sukumar Ranganathan was the Jury Chair for the edition.
