Chinar Strikers Triumph in Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Tournament 2024; Celebrating National Sports Day in Srinagar

Srinagar, Aug 30 (KINS):The thrilling finals of the Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Tournament 2024, held at the Polo View Hockey Stadium in Srinagar, concluded on 29th August with Chinar Strikers emerging victorious. They clinched the title with a narrow 1-0 win against Baramula, showcasing a remarkable display of skill and determination.
The tournament, which began on 19th August, was organized by Headquarter 31 Sub Area of Chinar Corps in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council and Hockey J&K. It was held to commemorate National Sports Day, celebrated annually on 29th August in honor of Major Dhyan Chand, India’s greatest field hockey player. The event also received support from the Liberty Group, which distributed hockey shoes and bags to the participants.
Twelve teams from ten districts across the Kashmir Valley competed in this second edition of the tournament, which followed a league format. The competition featured 12 league matches and two semi-finals leading up to the grand finale. Ramandeep from Baramula earned the ‘Man of the Match’ title for his outstanding performance, while Muneer from Shopian was named ‘Best Goalkeeper’ for his solid defense. Kamal from Chinar Strikers was adjudged ‘Player of the Tournament’ for his exceptional play throughout the event.
In a bid to promote women’s hockey in the region, an exhibition match between Baramula and Srinagar was held before the final.
The final match was graced by the presence of GOC Chinar Corps as the Chief Guest, with GOC 31 Sub Area and Padma Shri Awardee Shri Pargat Singh, former captain of the Indian Hockey Team, attending as a Special Guest.(KINS)
