Terrorist caught on cctv in Gagangir attack, investigation underway

Srinagar, Oct 24, 2024: A CCTV image of a Pheran-clad terrorist, linked to the recent Gagangir attack in Jammu and Kashmir, has surfaced. However, investigators have not confirmed whether the AK-47-wielding assailant was responsible for the October 20 assault, which left seven dead, including six non-local laborers.

The footage shows the suspect entering a prefabricated hut near the Gagangir tunnel construction site, where the attack occurred, according to official sources. Security officials are still verifying the authenticity of the footage, which has a date stamp of January 27 — a potential technical glitch. Additionally, the rifle’s blue-marked muzzle has raised concerns, as similar weapons have been used in previous attacks on security forces in the Pir Panjal region, roughly 200 kilometers away.

Though the suspect’s face is visible in the footage, survivors claimed that the assailants had their faces covered. A senior police official stated that it is too early to draw conclusions, as revealing more information could jeopardize the ongoing investigation.
