Mehbooba Mufti criticizes J&K Assembly’s resolution on special status as ‘Half-Hearted’

Srinagar, Nov 6 ( KINS ) : PDP president Mehbooba Mufti expressed dissatisfaction with the recently passed Jammu and Kashmir Assembly resolution aimed at restoring the region’s special status, calling it a “half-hearted” effort that could have been drafted “in a better way.”
Mufti criticized the resolution for not explicitly condemning the abrogation of Article 370, which had revoked Jammu and Kashmir’s special status in August 2019. She questioned the necessity of dialogue over the matter, arguing, “Do they have any doubt that what happened on August 5, 2019, was wrong? I would say it was a half-hearted effort.”
The resolution, introduced by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, calls for a dialogue between the central government and elected representatives regarding the restoration of special status. However, Mufti emphasized her disappointment that the resolution did not label the abrogation as illegal, stating, “There is a need to correct the language of the resolution. The PDP will do it.”
The PDP leader claimed that her party’s earlier move to introduce a resolution on restoring special status had influenced the National Conference’s decision to bring forth their own. “They have brought this resolution because the PDP brought a resolution earlier,” Mufti said.
When asked if the PDP was claiming credit for the resolution, Mufti clarified, “It is not about ‘credit or debit’. We promised people that if you elect us, we will do it. We fulfilled that promise, and perhaps the NC did it under pressure.”
Mufti concluded that her party’s initiative highlights the importance of integrity over numbers in politics, stating, “What matters is honesty in what you promise and what you do.”( KINS )
