Srinagar Dec 10 (KINS): Amid bone chilling cold, the demand for duck meat has surged in the Kashmir Valley as families turn to this seasonal favorite to warm their homes and taste buds.
Known for its rich flavor and numerous health benefits, duck meat has become an integral part of Kashmiri households during the chilly months.
Local traders report a sharp increase in the sale of duck meat this season. “Duck meat is always in high demand during winter,” Abdul Rouf, a trader, told news agency KINS.
“People prefer it for its unique taste and for its ability to bring warmth during the coldest days.” Rouf adds that demand peaks in the lead-up to festivals and family gatherings.
Duck meat’s popularity can be attributed to its nutritional benefits as well.
Doctors state its role in boosting immunity and overall health during the winter season.
Dr. Mohammad Shafi, a nutritionist explains, “Duck meat is an excellent source of protein, essential for repairing muscles and maintaining strength. It is also packed with iron and zinc, vital for enhancing the immune system during colder months when the risk of illness is higher.”
Furthermore, duck meat is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which support cardiovascular health and reduce inflammation.
“Duck meat provides the body with B vitamins, which are critical for energy production, maintaining brain function, and supporting overall well-being during the winter,” Dr Shafi told news agency KINS.
Despite its many benefits, health experts advise moderation. “While duck meat is beneficial, overconsumption can lead to an intake of excessive calories and fat,” the doctor warned.
Local traders continue to meet the growing demand by sourcing fresh duck meat from nearby regions and farms. With its traditional role in Kashmiri dishes, duck meat remains a symbol of cultural tradition as well as a health-conscious choice. (KINS)
