Army Celebrates International Pheran day by distributing warmth in border villages
Srinagar, Dec 21 (KINS) In a good gesture coinciding with International Pheran Day, the Indian Army distributed traditional Pherans to underprivileged families in remote villages near the Line of Control in Kashmir.
This thoughtful initiative, carried out during the harsh winter season of Chillai Kalan, brought much-needed warmth and comfort to families braving sub-zero temperatures.
The Pheran, a quintessential symbol of Kashmiri culture and resilience, holds both practical and emotional value for the people of the Valley. Celebrated annually on December 21, International Pheran Day underscores the cultural significance of this timeless attire, which embodies the warmth and strength of the Kashmiri identity.
Since its inception in 2021, International Pheran Day has been marked with vibrant celebrations across Kashmir, including events at Srinagar’s historic Ghanta Ghar and SKICC. These gatherings have featured fashion shows, cultural programs, and participation from notable personalities, specially-abled individuals, and tourists, all showcasing the beauty and heritage of the Pheran.
The Army’s distribution drive saw the active involvement of local volunteers, who helped identify the families most in need. This ensured the Pherans reached the right hands, spreading smiles and comfort among elders and children alike.
“This gesture reflects not just compassion but also an effort to strengthen the bond between the Army and the local community,” said one of the volunteers.
