Traffic Police Kulgam launches special drive against wrong parking in Qazigund

Qazigund, Dec 21 (KINS): The Traffic Police in Kulgam has started a special drive to tackle the issue of wrong parking in the busy Qazigund market. The aim of the drive, held on Saturday, was to reduce traffic jams and ensure smoother vehicle movement in the bustling town, which serves as a major gateway to south Kashmir.
The effort was led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Traffic, Mohammad Aslam, and included active participation from local police, civil administration, and other stakeholders.
DySP Mohammad Aslam explained the purpose of the drive: “We have requested shopkeepers to park their vehicles only at the designated parking spots, instead of in front of their shops. Similarly, street vendors were advised to place their carts at specific locations approved by the authorities. This will help ensure smooth traffic flow and make the roads safer for everyone.”
During the drive as per news gathering agency KINS, officials also took the opportunity to educate shop owners, vendors, and residents about traffic rules. They highlighted how wrong parking not only blocks the roads but also creates difficulties for pedestrians, emergency vehicles, and daily commuters.
Qazigund market, known for its busy trade and high number of visitors, often faces traffic issues due to haphazard parking and street encroachments. This initiative aims to bring some much-needed order to the area.
Locals and visitors welcomed the step, appreciating the efforts to improve traffic conditions. Irfan Ahmad, a shopkeeper in the market, said, “The roads look much better today. If everyone follows the rules, it will make a big difference for businesses and travelers alike.”
The Traffic Police Kulgam assured that similar drives will continue across other parts of the district to promote responsible road behavior.
They called upon citizens to cooperate with the authorities and play their part in keeping the roads clear and safe.(KINS)
