3-day training programme for MLAs begins in Jammu
KINS Correspondent
Jammu, Jan 09 (KINS): A three-day training programme for newly elected MLAs of Jammu and Kashmir commenced on Thursday.
The orientation programme, scheduled from January 9 to 11, 2025, is being held at the Central Hall of the J&K Legislative Assembly in Jammu. It is being organized in collaboration with the Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracies (PRIDE), Lok Sabha Secretariat, New Delhi.
A source told Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) that the Speaker has stressed the importance of imparting training to the newly elected legislators to enable them to effectively present matters of public interest before the House.
The programme, organized by the J&K Legislative Assembly Secretariat in collaboration with PRIDE, aims to equip the new legislators with essential knowledge of parliamentary practices, procedures, and the conduct of business in the House. This initiative holds particular significance as the Legislative Assembly was constituted on October 8, 2024, and over 50 of the current members are first-time legislators. The programme seeks to prepare them to fulfill their legislative responsibilities effectively.
Key topics to be covered during the orientation include legislative processes, budgetary procedures, executive accountability, the committee system, and effective legislative practices. Eminent parliamentarians such as Dr. Sanjay Jaiswal, NK Premachandran, and Dr. Satyapal Singh will lead discussions, alongside senior officers from the Lok Sabha Secretariat. Participants will also gain insights into the National e-Vidhan Application (NEVA), a digital initiative aimed at streamlining legislative processes. (KINS)
