Allowing Eid prayers depend on situation, weather: Dr Darakhshan Andrabi

KINS Desk

Srinagar, Feb 13 (KINS): Chairperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board, Dr. Darakhshan Andrabi, on Thursday directed that the ongoing construction work at Eidgah Srinagar be completed before Eid ul Fitr.

She said that holding Eid prayers at the venue would depend on the situation and weather conditions in the Valley.

While overseeing the construction work at Eidgah, Dr. Andrabi said there was a need for a well-maintained and aesthetically pleasing prayer ground.

“We have already instructed the concerned authorities to complete the construction before Eid. We want to see Eidgah in a beautiful condition, ensuring that people can offer prayers without any inconvenience,” she told reporters, according to news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS).

When asked about the possibility of Eid prayers being held at Eidgah, she responded, “It all depends on the situation and weather on that day.”

She also provided updates on the ongoing renovation works at various shrines, including Hazratbal, Dastgeer Sahib, and Makhdoom Sahib.

She assured that all necessary arrangements were being made to facilitate devotees during Shab-e-Baraat.

“There are several government agencies responsible for maintaining hygiene around shrines, and efforts are being made to ensure that devotees do not face any difficulties,” she said.

However, she declined to comment on the Waqf Amendment Bill being introduced in Parliament, stating, “I will comment only when we know what amendments are being made.”

On the recent High Court ruling that families of militants cannot be denied passports, Dr. Andrabi said the order should be implemented. (KINS)
