PM chairs emergency CCS meeting after Pahalgam terror attack; Govt vows decisive response

Srinagar, April 23 (KINS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened an urgent meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on Wednesday, in the wake of the terror attack in Pahalgam.

The high-level meeting came just a day after the brutal assault that killed several tourists in one of Kashmir’s most picturesque locations. The CCS meeting was attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, along with other top security officials.

The session focused on assessing the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and formulating a robust response to the attack, which has shocked the nation and drawn widespread condemnation.

Earlier in the day, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, speaking at a public event, expressed profound sorrow over the loss of innocent lives and reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to combating terrorism.

“We are heartbroken by the cowardly attack in Pahalgam. Innocent lives were taken by those who have no regard for humanity. I want to reiterate — India follows a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism,” Singh said.

“Those responsible, both the attackers and their handlers, will face a loud and clear response. The government is determined to act decisively and swiftly,” he added.

In a separate review, Rajnath Singh also chaired a strategic meeting with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Air Force Chief Marshal AP Singh, and senior officials from various security agencies. Sources confirmed that the discussion centered around immediate and long-term security measures in Jammu and Kashmir, with emphasis on intelligence coordination, operational readiness, and safeguarding civilian areas.

The terror attack in Pahalgam has not only prompted swift governmental action but also united political, civil, and security leadership in a rare moment of complete consensus — to ensure that justice is delivered and peace is preserved in the region.(KINS)
